The living room and the dining table

House guide

Everything you need to feel at home. You can use anything in the apartment, the kitchen, the drinks, the appliances. The only things off-limits are the closets that are already full, they hold my personal belongings. I trust my guests completely 🙏

Bedroom 1, the quiet room with the blue wall

Bedroom 1, the quiet room with the blue wall

  • The quieter bedroom, away from the street. Light sleepers, this is your room.
  • The first wardrobe, just to your right, is empty, feel free to use it. The others hold my personal things.
  • To block the light, use the exterior shutters. They close completely and work much better than the indoor blinds, but need a little knack, ask me if they resist.
  • Slippers are there for you. Need an ironing board? Just ask.
  • Feel free to switch pillows between rooms, they all have a different firmness.
Bedroom 2, with the desk

Bedroom 2, with the desk and the TV, street side

  • This room faces the street and can be a bit noisier at night. Light sleepers will prefer Bedroom 1.
  • The TV remote is on the nightstand. The wardrobe is empty, it is all yours.
  • The TV is a Samsung Frame, it doubles as a piece of art. To turn it off completely, press and hold the small button on the bottom edge for several seconds until the screen goes dark. A quick press only switches it to art mode.
  • Your two empty wardrobes, the first one on your right in Bedroom 1 and the one in this room, have hangers ready. One of them also holds a clothes drying rack, handy after a wash.
    Empty, hangers ready
    Empty too, all yours
The kitchen

Kitchen

  • Coffee, tea and more are in the cupboard above the air fryer. Help yourself to anything you find in the cupboards and the fridge.
  • The fridge is yours, I leave some drinks for you. There is also ice cream in the freezer 🍦
  • Pots, pans and utensils are in the drawers and cabinets, feel free to cook. Oil, salt, pepper and spices are there too.
  • The washing machine is in the kitchen, the detergent pods are on top of the cupboard by the entrance. Switch it on with the power button, choose the programme (standard cycle, button 1, 30°C, about 1h30), then press the small arrow ▷ to start.
    1. Switch on
    2. Start with ▷
  • For the dishwasher, put the tablet straight into the machine, not in the little compartment, it works better. Switch it on with the button on the left, then press play ▷ on the right.
    1. Switch on, on the left
    2. Play ▷, on the right
The sofa and the exposed beams of the living room

Living room

  • Several light switches near the sofa and the entrance let you adjust the lighting.
  • The LED strip under the TV cabinet works with the small white remote. The top button switches it on and off, the wheel sets the brightness.
  • Power outlets are near the sofa.
  • The TV remotes are in the drawer of the white cabinet, right in front of the sofa. Press the power button of the silver Apple TV remote, it usually switches the TV on too, already on the right input. If the screen stays dark, the black Samsung remote turns the TV on. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube and Spotify are there. On standby the Samsung Frame looks like a painting, that is normal.
Black, the Samsung TV. Silver, the Apple TV.
  • 🎵 A Bose speaker sits on the floor, its charger is to the right of the sofa.
  • The sofa cushions all have a different feel. Find your favourite!
The bathroom

Bathroom

  • Fresh towels are provided. Shampoo, shower gel and a hairdryer are there too.
  • Extra toilet paper is above the toilet.
  • Hot water takes about 30 seconds to arrive, totally normal in Parisian buildings.
  • ⚠️ Please don’t open the bathroom window, it is hard to close and can get stuck.

Heating, please read

  • The central heating remote sits on the living room table. Choose the temperature and the heating adjusts by itself. Between 20 and 22°C is comfortable. Give it about 30 minutes, turning it up higher does not heat faster.
  • ⚠️ Never turn or adjust the radiators directly. It makes the pipes gurgle and bang, sometimes in the middle of the night. Always use the remote.
  • The fireplace is decorative, please don’t try to light it.
  • No air conditioning.

Trash and recycling

  • The kitchen bin is in plain sight in the kitchen and has two parts. Cardboard and glass go in the bottom, everything else on top.
Bottom, cardboard and glass. Top, everything else.
  • Only if you need to during your stay, recycling (paper, plastic, metal) goes in the yellow bin in the building courtyard and glass in the green container at the corner of Rue de Saintonge and Rue de Bretagne. Otherwise there is nothing to do, the cleaner takes care of it when you leave.

Good to know

  • Electricity. French outlets, type E, 230V. From the US, the UK or Australia you need an adapter. There are a few in the living room drawer, and the Monoprix nearby sells them.
  • Quiet hours. Please keep the noise down after 10 pm, the neighbours are lovely and the walls are thin.
  • No smoking inside the apartment.
  • Deliveries. Parcels and food delivery (Uber Eats, Deliveroo) work fine. Give them the address and the floor, or meet them downstairs.
  • Safety. The Marais is one of the safest neighbourhoods in Paris, lively day and night. Keep your phone in a front pocket on the metro, like in any big city.
  • Something not working? A fuse, the lock, a tap, the TV remote. Just message me, no question is too small.
